The Canadian Museum of Nature is a national natural history museum located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is the largest natural history museum in Canada, and it is home to a vast collection of specimens and artifacts related to the natural world. The museum’s permanent exhibits cover a wide range of topics related to natural history, including geology, mineralogy, botany, paleontology, and zoology. The Canadian Museum of Nature also hosts a variety of temporary exhibits throughout the year, as well as educational programs, workshops, and events for visitors of all ages. It is a must-see destination for anyone interested in natural history and the environment.
For this project, I was required to come up with a poster advertising the museum and the theme of man and nature. For the poster design, I decided to use The Vitruvian Man a famous drawing by Leonardo da Vinci, created around the year 1490.
I took Leonardo da Vinci’s famous drawing that depicts a male figure in two superimposed positions, with his arms and legs extended in a circle and a square, and combined it with a drawing of an ape. The relationship between humans and apes has been the subject of much scientific and philosophical debate, with some arguing that humans are fundamentally different from other animals, while others emphasize the similarities and interconnectedness of all living beings. Regardless of one’s perspective, it is clear that the relationship between humans and apes is complex and multifaceted, and that there is much to be learned from studying the paleontology, biology, and behavior of these fascinating creatures.
The Vitruvian Man is a widely recognized symbol of human potential and the pursuit of knowledge and understanding. Overall, the poster design of The Vitruvian Man split into an Ape symbolizes the relationship between the human body and the natural world, and it reflects the belief in the interconnectedness of all things.
